What is it with this beat

I just got in a track over a beat of mine thats one of my best....ever. And yet again, the track is subpar. I'm not gonna name names or post audio because I'm not tryin to embarass him, i'm just gonna say that its real real real disappointing that nobody has ripped this track like they need to. Real soulful beat, great chorus, shouldn't be a problem right? I think its almost payback or something because I love the beat THAT much, so now I gotta keep waiting and waiting for somebody to use it right.

Still slowly working on the Busta tape (w/ Superstar Jay & Big T), it'll be a best of - might drop this week but with all the uncertainty about mixtapes right now i'd rather just stockpile tapes for when the situation is all settled. It was originally done for my mixtape I handed out at the Dynamic Producer Conference in 06 (thats the cover below), but now demic is using it for his new album/mixtape/whatever called 'Ventilation'.

Won't be any beats posted today or anything - I'm headed over to the hospital soon to see my Granny. Next week should have a lot of updates though - 2 mixtapes plus whatever beats I'm working on.

New beat (by request)

So a little more than a year ago, I was in the iStandard Producer Showcase down in NY - this was the first time I ever really presented my beats out to the public so naturally I was nervous. I was working on tracks right up until I left for the train pretty much, and the night before I made a beat that for some reason, I just loved. Well fast forward to the showcase, I played the beat, and people made the 'ehhhhhhhh' face - all the other beats were well received except for this one. So long story short, ever since that night, I've HATED that beat.

So the other night demic asks me to to do something with that same sample. I had purposefully stayed away from it but I figured what the hell. The new beat came out much, much better and I feel like I've exercised a demon or something LOL. So long story short, here's the new beat...

Okay so I'm guessing like 3 people tops have read this blog so far, and i've gotten feedback from two people - one liked it, the other gave the thumbs down. Fuck it. LOL. For today and yesterday the updates were music but that won't always be the case - some days it'll be a beat, some days it'll be an update on what mixtape we're releasing that week, some days it might be me talking about how I didn't make a beat that day. *shrugs*

Okay on to today's update. Here's the story behind this song: epideMIC was looking for a beat to speak on his daughter, he sent me the sample and gave me an idea of what he was looking for. I gave him a rough draft, he wrote to it, I finished up the beat and that was it. Demic and I can knock a song out real quick, and we're doing this all over AIM!

Sometimes when you sit down to make a beat you struggle with it, you struggle to figure out what you're trying to say, what you wanna sample (or compose) - and sometimes, that shit is just instant. This beat was INSTANT. This beat is in response to some dumb shit in my life that I took responsibility for, and how I was feeling (basically like an asshole) at the time .

Why I'm Blogging

Before I can really get into this blogging shit, I felt I needed to explain exactly what I'm trying to accomplish and introduce myself. Some of you know me as Dave, some of you know me as Doc, but what you call me doesn't matter as long as you listen to the music. I deal with shit in life by making beats, and they'll often reflect that - if i'm crazy in love (no Beyonce pun intended), you'll hear some romantic samples and some shit that'll make you smile - it'll be sappy, it'll be practically untouchable for a traditional rapper to use, but fuck it - thats what i'm making! If i'm pissed off, you're gonna get some dark angry shit. Some people write when they need to express their feelings - I just make beats.
